These combined models meld the airy summer space of a summerhouse with the year-round multifunctionality of a cabin.
What is the Difference Between a Log Cabin and a Summer House?
The separation between a garden cabin and a summerhouse usually lies in their design purpose and cladding style.
With all Log Cabins, the building exterior is always built from “log-lapped” cladding. This method sees thick log boards intersect at the corners, leaving the ends of the boards sticking out at right angles for each other. This emulates the traditional log-lapped style seen in cabins made from unprocessed logs.
Summer houses themselves do not feature this cladding style. They are made instead from tongue and groove timber cladding attached to a central wooden frame. There are no intersecting edges and the look of the timber is usually darker. While these differences are primarily stylistic, log cladding does offer better structural support thanks to the interlocking edges.
There are also differences in design purpose. Summerhouses are generally designed as places to relax and unwind during the hot summer weather, so they feature bright and airy interiors with large windows where you can enjoy the warmth without being stifled. Log
Cabins, on the other hand, are suited for multipurpose year-round use. They have better-insulated designs and their interiors can be used for a range of functions like office or gym spaces.
Log cabin summerhouses are a blend of the two styles, giving you the flexibility to use it for a wide range of uses.
Who are Log Cabin Summer Houses Right For?
These unique buildings are perfect for anyone looking for the airiness and relaxing feel of a garden summerhouse - but in the shell of a log cabin that permits use throughout the year.
Make spring feel like summer by relaxing in the cosier atmosphere of a cabin while still enjoying the bright sunshine let in by the large windows. When summer comes, openable windows and wide double doors mean you can let fresh air in and break down the barrier between indoors and outdoors. When autumn and winter come there’s no need to stay away - the robust features of the cabin make it a comfortable place to spend time.
What Are the Benefits of a Summerhouse Log Cabin?
A summer cabin boasts the benefits of both building types. We’ve listed these out below.
- Log-lapped cladding which intersects at the edges of the building. This thick cladding offers extra structural stability as well as increased natural insulation which helps you use it throughout the year. You can also improve this by adding insulation.
- Large SAN-glazed windows that bring in natural sunlight, making the interior bright and airy - ideal for summer days and evenings.
- Wide double doors that make access easy and, when open, allow fresh air to circulate through the interior.
- A protective guarantee that comes with every building. Ranging from 10 years, or even 15 if the garden building is pressure-treated, the guarantee protects against rot, decay and insect infestation - the main causes of damage to timber.
