What Uses Are 12x8 Log Cabins Suitable For?

Our cabins of this size are classed as medium size, which means they can accommodate a range of uses and should be able to accommodate multipurpose functionality.

The interior space is roomy without being too large, so it can still feel cosy if you add enough furnishings. It can easily accommodate two people at once, and up to four before it begins to feel cramped. Any gatherings larger than this are likely to feel closed-in, so we wouldn’t recommend using buildings of this size for purely social or entertainment purposes.

Uses that this size is great for is anything where one to two people are in the building, such as a studio, garden office or workspace, a garden gym, or a place to relax like an extra living room. There should be enough space for multifunctional use, for example a building that is usually an office but, when the furniture is pushed to the side, can be used as a handy gym.

As a relaxation space, if your log cabin features large windows letting in lots of natural light and a good view of the garden, it fits the description of a log cabin summerhouse.

What Size Garden Will a 12x8 Cabin Fit In?

It is important that you size your garden correctly before choosing your cabin size. A cabin that is too big for your garden may leave you feeling unhappy with both the building and the garden you have left - avoid this by measuring it out accurately beforehand and surveying the space you want to install the cabin in.

As per planning permission law, your garden building can’t take up more than 50% of the available space in your garden. However, we’d recommend that it doesn’t take up any more than 35% of your garden. Any larger, and you’re likely to be left with a building that dominates the space and restricts how you can use it. Calculating this will give you a good idea of whether or not your garden will feel too small after the cabin has been built.

Can Your Cabins Be Self-Assembled?

Yes, in fact, they’re designed specifically to be self-assembled! All buildings come with a details digital assembly manual that you’ll receive before the building itself arrives. Like a more advanced set of flat-packed furniture, simply follow the instructions through to build your new Log Cabin. You will need the help of another person (for a team of two) to help you build it.
