Small Summer Houses
Having a small garden shouldn’t mean that you’re restricted in how you use it. This isn’t the case with a small summer house, which provides all the benefits of a garden summer house on a smaller, more space-conscious scale.
While they’re designed to fit where bigger buildings can’t, these summer houses don’t sacrifice anything in terms of usability, quality, or reliability. They’re built with robust interlocking cladding and can be equipped for the same functions - all while taking up less space and feeling cosier when you’re inside. To learn more about picking the right sized building, consult our summerhouse buying guide.

What Size is a Small Summer House?
Generally, a “smaller” model is classified as any building with width and length dimensions smaller than 10 feet or 3 metres. Buildings with these dimensions are unlikely to fit into narrow spaces, so can’t fit into the “small” category.
This means that any size up to this point is a small garden house, meaning sizes such as 8x8 are definitely within the smaller range. For bigger buildings, you can always explore our large summer house range.
In the end, you are the best judge of what is big or small means for your garden. We recommend picking a garden house that doesn’t dominate the space but provides enough room to feel comfortable in.
What Kind of Garden Is a Small Summer House Suitable For?
The beauty of a smaller building is that they’re suited for a huge variety of gardens. Narrow gardens and urban gardens are where smaller summerhouses come into their own, offering a haven in places where you wouldn’t usually expect one. In the gardens of larger cities and suburbs, and especially terraced house gardens, space can sometimes be limited. But adding the right-sized summerhouse can add a place of privacy and relaxation.
These models don’t just suit small gardens either, they can be the perfect fit for a larger garden too. An awkwardly shaped garden can sometimes require a smaller summerhouse if there’s no fitting place to put a large building or if you’re simply looking for a mini garden pavilion to escape to. If you’re looking specifically for a building to fit into a corner, our corner summer houses are the best place to look.
How Can You Use a Small Summerhouse?
While their size may be small, their functionality is certainly not limited! There is a huge range of uses that a summerhouse can fulfil. They’re great as just a comfortable, cosy place to relax or spend time with friends and family. They can also function excellently as a place to work, such as a spa or salon environment, or as an office in your garden.
We’ve also got buildings with attached storage which can provide more multi-functional uses. If this is the direction you have in mind, our summerhouse sheds may be more suitable. Or you could even consider converting a shed into a summerhouse.
What Features Are Included with our Buildings?
Size does not mean sacrificing quality either. Each small model is built to the same standards as our large models, with the following features provided as standard:
- Interlocking tongue and groove cladding. This fit-together panelling design provides a smooth exterior, a tight seal that prevents moisture from seeping in, and extra structural support to the frame.
- Optional pressure treatment. You can opt to have the building pressure treated, a process that adds chemical preservatives into the timber, increasing its weather resistance and longevity. Some buildings are pressure-treated as standard.
- A 10-year protective guarantee. This guarantee keeps your building safe against the main types of damage your building might experience, which are wood decay, rot, and insect infestation. If you get a pressure-treated building, this is extended to a 15-year guarantee.
- Safe, shatterproof SAN glazing with large windows. From experience, we’ve learned that providing glass windows can often be more dangerous than it’s worth. With these buildings designed to be out in the open, glass can easily become damaged and is difficult to repair or replace once this happens. That’s why we provide shatterproof glazing that looks just as good and can stand up to the weather!
