Garden Sheds in 8'x6' and 6'x8'
If you’re looking for a garden shed or storage shed in 8x6 feet, or 6x8 feet depending on your preferred building orientation, you are in the right place. All of the sheds listed here are available in those size options. Just click them to see the full details of each product, or click to see our full selection of garden sheds.
An 8x6ft garden shed is one of the most popular sizes, because it offers functional storage without taking up too much space in the majority of UK gardens. In our range, you’ll find a huge variety of 8x6 or 6x8 sheds in wood, metal and plastic, with differing styles suited for unique purposes and price points catering to all budgets.
Allotment Sheds
8x6 foot sheds are the maximum permitted size for an allotment garden. On a rented allotment, your shed should be a temporary structure only. Many of the sheds on this page are suited to this purpose, especially the metal and plastic options which are the easiest to assemble and disassemble.
Is an 8 x 6 storage shed big enough?
An 8 x 6 garden shed should be large enough to store a medium size family BBQ, 2-4 bicycles, a wheelbarrow, and a lawnmower. Small tools are best stored on wall hooks or shelves to save space. Depending on the volume of the items you are storing, this might even leave you with room for a work table for some DIY tasks.
While 8x6 sheds offer plentiful storage to meet the needs of most gardeners, they’re also not excessive in size or footprint and won’t take over your garden space. This means they cater well to the traditional storage-style shed that you see in gardens all across the UK.

Choosing the Right Shed for You

Usually, no. Most UK properties are allowed sheds as 'permitted developments' with no planning permission required.
Exceptions (where you MIGHT need planning permission) include:
- Listed properties and locations of 'outstanding natural beauty
- Structures exceeding 2.5 metres height on the eaves (our sheds don't exceed this)
- Sheds placed in the front garden
- Sheds exceeding more than 50% of the garden space
There are some other rules, so check out our guide to planning permission for sheds to get a full understanding.
Since 2020, we no longer have a physical showroom and all trade is conducted online. Our website shows previews of every size of building with precise measurements to make it easy for you to make an informed buying decision.
When you visit a product page, changing between sizes will immediately show you what the exact size looks like.
Each shed material has its own pros and cons and your decision should be based on how you intend to use the building.
Wooden sheds
Wooden sheds are the most popular type of shed, and for good reason.
- Pros:
- They look great and can be painted and customised
- They are very durable against wind and rain.
- Wood is naturally insulating against heat and cold.
- Cons:
- They are flammable. Not ideal for welding or other blowtorch work.
- They require regular maintenance, including treatment to prevent rot and insect infestation.
There are multiple styles of wooden garden shed available, including log cabin sheds. All our BillyOh wooden sheds are manufactured at our purpose-built site in the UK and come with a 10-year guarantee as standard.
Plastic sheds
Don’t underestimate the practical benefits of a plastic shed. They can serve you well for both storage and workshop uses.
- Pros:
- Plastic sheds are relatively inexpensive.
- Low maintenance and long lasting.
- Quality models offer solid durability.
- Not flammable.
- Cons:
- Difficult to customise without damage.
- Can’t be painted.
- Colour might fade with time.
Metal sheds
For a low cost, low maintenance garden building, look no further than a galvanised metal shed.
- Pros:
- Metal sheds are cheaper than wood and plastic sheds.
- They can be painted with specialist metal paint.
- Not much maintenance to do.
- Galvanised models are resistant to rust as long as the coating stays intact.
- Cons:
- Can be difficult to customise with add-ons.
- Metal sheds become hot in the summer.
- At less than 1mm thick, they can dent with impact.
We deliver sheds for free to most of the UK. Check our delivery page for full details.
Unfortunately we are unable to offer an installation service. However, our wooden shed kits are designed to be easy to assemble with basic DIY tools. Metal and plastic sheds are even easier to put together, with only screws required.
If you require professional installation, we encourage hiring a local specialist. It is best to wait until you have a delivery date before booking this.
When we say a 'base', we mean a surface that is:
- Flat (check with a spirit level)
- Solid (bricks, slabs or concrete. NOT soil, grass or gravel)
- With drainage (it doesn't have to be raised, but rainwater has to be able to leave the area.)
It is important that a shed stands in a location where it will be able to easily remain upright without undue stress on the structure, and where it won't be absorbing water. Our wooden sheds all come with pressure treated floor bearers which raise the floor slightly above the ground, so you can place yours straight onto a level patio or decking without issue.
If your designated shed location is currently soft, you could level this out and use our Ecobase product to save you the work of landscaping.
Types of Garden Sheds
The shed you should buy depends primarily on how you plan to use it. Here are some of our main garden shed categories:
Storage sheds
The most classic use for a shed is good old trusty outdoor storage. All the sheds on this page are ideal for storing your gardening and DIY tools, your lawnmower, your bike, and any leftover clutter that you don’t want in the house.
Within this category you can also find bike sheds, which are specially sized as small and secure hideaways for bicycles and scooters.
Workshop sheds
Whether you’re fixing the car, building a bed frame, welding metal, or doing any manner of odd jobs, a garden workshop is your best mate of a building. Choose your workshop based on what kinds of work you expect you will be doing in it, how much space you will need, and how durable you need it to be.
Potting Sheds
Some of our sheds are suitable for growing potted plants in. These warm, protected environments make ideal homes for your plants throughout the colder months or all year round. Combining the best elements of a shed and a greenhouse, a potting shed lets you keep your plants growing while also storing your tools in the same space.

Garden Gym Shed
A garden shed can make an awesome workout space and a perfect home for all that bulky exercise equipment. Check out our full range of garden gym buildings.
Garden Office Shed
Working from home offers great flexibility, but many professionals find it better to fully separate themselves from the house and retreat into the solitude of a garden workspace. Garden offices are a perfect solution for this.
Bar Shed
Who doesn’t love a relaxing drink in the garden? And with a garden bar shed, you can fully incorporate private or social outdoor food and drinks into your home lifestyle.
We’ve made it easy to set up a luxurious drinking environment inside your shed by installing our garden bar counter product.
Garden Shed Buying Options
Even after you have picked the basic type of shed you would like, there are still lots of options available to choose from, such as a price range, different sizes, and payment options.
Garden Shed Prices
Our outdoor sheds start from less than £250. Each model offers amazing value for what you are looking for, but one of our most popular low cost options is the Super Saver shed - keep an eye out for it in the list above. If budget is a major consideration for you, check out our range of cheap sheds.
Shed Finance - Buy now, pay later
We offer sheds on finance when the total basket price is over £560 (minimum 10% deposit required) thanks to our partnership with Novuna. You’ll find a breakdown of all the information underneath the ‘Add to basket’ section on the product page. Make sure you read our finance page to understand all the rules.
Shed Sizes
Our sheds come in a lot of different sizes to suit all kinds of gardens and uses. When choosing what size of shed to buy, you first need to consider how big your garden is and how much space the shed will take up. This is important in order to avoid issues with Planning Permission for Sheds. All our sheds are below the maximum height limit for a permitted development, so as long as you aren’t going to build across more than half of your garden (or in front of your house), then you shouldn’t come across any planning permission issues.
One of the most popular sizes is a 8 x 6 foot shed (choose size after selecting a product). This size offers ample space for storage or small scale workshopping, without taking up a lot of your garden.
