There’s debate over whether an 8x8 shed is considered small or medium. Models of 8 by 8 feet don’t have a large footprint, so don’t take up vast amounts of space, but have a spacious interior large enough to keep big pieces of equipment like bikes and lawnmowers.

All of our sheds are patio-friendly, perfect for placement on concrete, brick, or slabbed patio areas. As long as your patio is large enough for your chosen size of shed (we have some very large ones), you should be fine to commence with building.
Please bear in mind that if your patio is not completely level, an extra base may be required to give the shed a flat surface to stand on.

We don’t currently offer a shed installation service. Our garden sheds are supplied for self-assembly and include full fitting instructions.

Usually, no. Most UK properties are allowed sheds as 'permitted developments' with no planning permission required, provided they are not placed in a front garden or exceed height limits. If you live in a listed property, a conservation area, or are unsure about boundary rules, please read our quick guide to shed planning permission to double-check before ordering.
When we say a 'base', we mean a surface that is:
- Flat (check with a spirit level)
- Solid (bricks, slabs, concrete, or a base kit. NOT soil, grass or loose gravel)
- With drainage (it doesn't have to be raised, but rainwater has to be able to leave the area.)
So yes, all sheds require a base.
It is important that a shed stands in a location where it will be able to easily remain upright without undue stress on the structure, and where it won't be absorbing water. Our wooden sheds all come with pressure treated floor bearers which raise the floor slightly above the ground, so you can place yours straight onto a level patio or reinforced decking without issue.
If your designated shed location is currently soft, you could level this out and use our Ecobase product to save you the work of landscaping.

How Much Can You Fit in an 8x8 Shed?
You’d be surprised how much you can fit into an 8 by 8 shed. Thanks to its square shape, and especially the 8 feet of width, there’s room to store larger and bulky items. To give an idea of how much this would equate to, there’d be room to store at least four bikes (with handlebars offset).
Of course, they can be used for more than just bikes. They could easily store an array of garden furniture, even up to a small table provided it could collapse and fit through the doorway. Items such as lawnmowers, tool racks, and chairs should easily fit.
